For the record, let me state that I am a major Craig Kyle and Chris Yost fanboy. Their work on New X-Men was awesome and propelled the comic from an ancillary title during the Academy X days to a monthly slice of badassness that was one of the best X-titles at that time. Since the end of New X-Men, the two have consistently (Messiah War aside) delivered with X-Force, and it's one of my favourite books on the shelves today, from any company. So needless to say, I'm pumped for the upcoming Necrosha event, featuring the work of these two and the X-Force title.
But, Devin, what is this Necrosha and why does it sound very dirty? Truth be told, I could explain things myself, but I doubt I could enunciate it any better than Kirk Warren, of the Weekly Crisis (http://www.weeklycrisis.com/) Kirk's blog is one of my daily reads, and he pulls out all the stops to create an impressive and very detailed primer for the event (http://www.weeklycrisis.com/2009/09/top-10-tuesdays-10-things-you-need-to.html), one that any newcomer to comics or someone interested in Necrosha, X-Force, Selene, etc, should be reading. Heck, even Chris Yost himself has taken notice! (http://yosttv.blogspot.com/2009/09/necrosha-primer-weekly-crisis.html) So yeah, do Kirk a favour; check it out and post a comment, and while you're there, you might as well look at all the other great stuff Kirk and crew have to offer.

That's a silly name...
..Yes, Fights and Tights is a silly name for a blog, ain't it? But then again, what would you expect from a guy who calls himself the Phoenix King? Ten points to your House if you can figure out that reference. Devin Smith is my real name, but I like the Phoenix King better as an online moniker. Now that I've finally gotten off my lazy ass to post something, what the hell is this blog about?
During my final year of an undergraduate degree at Trent University, I wrote and ran a comic-book topic program under the same name for Trent Radio 92.7 FM. It was a fun little half-hour every week, and besides giving me some experience in the radio business, it also gave me a chance to express my feelings and opinions on comic book-related topics and issues in a medium beyond simple forum posts on CBR and Newsarama. So that is what the Fights and Tights Blog is all about; comic book reviews, debates, opinion pieces and other such rampant venting, alongside bits of liberal politics, science fiction and fantasy stuff, fanfiction works and whatever else catches my fancy or grinds my gears. Essentially a continuation of my radio show, but with more (potentially) more swearing and calling the Prime Minister a dick. Good times!
So yeah, that's me. Hope you stay and enjoy the ride! If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, I'm always open to them, so feel free to send them to me...
Now then, where to begin...
